Part A = Cut 2 pieces 8”h x 8”w (A1 = inside case; A2 = outside case)
Part B = Cut 2 pieces 6”h x 8”w (B1 = interior pocket; B2=pocket lining)
8” piece of 1” wide ric-rac
2 pieces of thin cotton batting (one at 7 ½” x 7 ½”; one at 5 ½” x 7 ½”)
2 8” pieces of decorative ribbon fore tie closure
Thread for assembly and decorative topstitching

1. With right sides of part As together, starting 2 ½” from the top, stitch around sides and top to 2 ½” from top on opposite side, leaving bottom edge and remaining sides free. Cut ½” slit in seam allowance immediately below where stitch line starts and ends. Press seams and turn right sides out.
2. Insert larger batting piece inside part As, leaving seam allowance free of batting. Pin edges and set aside.
3. Line up top curves of ric-rack to top edge of B1. Using basting stitch, attach using ¼” seam allowance to hold in place.
4. Embroider or attach “patches” (* READ and SUN; see patch ideas at end if patterns!) to B1
5. With right sides of part Bs together, stitch across top edge and press seam.
6. Insert smaller piece batting inside part Bs, leaving seam allowance free of batting.
7. Pin ribbon in place, matching raw edges, half way down each side of Assembly A.
8. Matching bottom edges, pin Assembly B to Assembly A with part B1 facing part A2.
9. Sew parts together through all layers, clip corners to remove bulk and turn right sides out.
10. Using chalk or fabric marking pen, draw line down center of entire case. Topstitch on line through all layers to create division for glasses.
11. Voile! Your are ready to go!

PATCHWORK GLASSES CASE
Materials needed:
Outsides = Assemble patchwork pieces with finished size of 6 ½”w x 8”h
Lining = Cut 2 pieces 6 ½”w x 8”h
Ruffle = Cut 2 pieces 2”h x 8”w
2 pieces of thin cotton batting 5 ½” x 7 ½”
Divider = 1 piece of felt 6 ½”x 7 ½”
Thread for assembly and decorative topstitching

1. Assemble patchwork pieces. We used chevron, sunray and striped patchwork patterns for the ones in the article, but the possibilities are endless!
2. Embroider or attach “patches” (* READ and SUN; see patch ideas at end if patterns!) to outside patchwork pieces.
3. Press ruffle pieces in half lengthwise with right sides out.
4. Matching raw edges and using basting stitch, attach each ruffle piece to the top edge of a patchwork piece. You will gather as you stitch, ending up with ends meeting edge of body piece.
5. With right sides together, attach each patchwork piece to its corresponding lining piece along the top edges only. Press seams and turn right sides out.
6. Insert batting pieces inside each assembly, leaving seam allowances free of batting.
7. Place two assembled sides on top of each other, with patchwork sides facing. Stack felt divider on top and pin. Sew around sides and bottom edges through all layers. Clip corners to remove bulk and turn right sides out.
8. Head to the beach!

PATCH IDEAS
We made “patches” that looked like a sun and book to go with our glass cases. You can either embroider your own words (or pictures!) or use an iron transfer like we did. Available at most craft stores, you can print on these iron-on transfers right from your computer. We attached all of our “patches” to our cases using double-sided fusible interfacing. Then, we embellished with contrast funky stitching, and frayed or pinked our edges!
